Buenos Aires Hotel: Palacio Duhau

Do you want your Buenos Aires itinerary to include a stay at one of the best hotels in the city? If so, I’m here to put the historic Palacio Duhau onto your radar…

The Property

The Palacio Duhau is a former private mansion built in 1934 for then Minister of Agriculture, Luis Duhau. The residence stayed in the family for more than 50 years before restoration began to convert the historic property into a luxury hotel.

It’s located in Recoleta, arguably one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. You’ll love being so centrally located to many great restaurants, bars, shopping, and must-visit city sites.

The Room

I chose the Palacio Duhau for a staycation birthday celebration this year. And I sure am happy I did!

When you book your room at the Duhau, you’ll have two options: to stay in the modern tower that overlooks the Palacio or to stay in the palace itself. I opted to stay in the actual palace and was rewarded with a free upgrade to a King Suite! Birthday celebrations were starting off strong…

Awaiting inside the room was a bottle of wine alongside a box of chocolates from Duhau Patisserie, a pastry shop located onsite.

Common Spaces & Dining

Make sure to leave some time to explore the property, as it’s full of history and thoughtful design. Wander the gardens and imagine what it must have been like to live here in 1930s Buenos Aires.

A stay in a Palace room includes breakfast at Los Salones del Piano Nobile. I recommend asking for a table on the outdoor terrace that overlooks the garden. If you love a good afternoon tea service, don’t forget to make a reservation for the Five O’Clock Tea, also at the Piano Nobile.

Finally, you can also enjoy dinner onsite at Duhau Restaurant & Vinoteca, specializing in Argentine dishes, or Gioia Botanical Cuisine, a new vegan restaurant.

Price

The currency used in Argentina is the peso, but you’ll likely see prices in USD on Hyatt’s website for the Palacio Duhau. Rooms start at around $450 per night in the winter and $500 in summer (keeping in mind the seasons are opposite than they are in the northern hemisphere!).

Book your stay on their website here.

Buenos Aires is a city rich in culture and has so much to discover. Recoleta is a great neighborhood from which to base your stay and the Palacio Duhau will make it unforgettable. And don’t forget to grab some chocolates and macarons from the Patisserie to take home with you!
