Argentina: Glamping in El Chaltén
Planning a trip to El Chaltén? I think I can safely assume one thing about you: you enjoy being in the Great Outdoors. And if you’re going to go to almost the literal end of the earth that is Southern Patagonia to find that nature…you might also want to be as immersed in it as possible. Enter: Chalten Camp Glamping Domes.
The Property
Chalten Camp is a luxury glamping experience, tucked away in a secluded area of El Chaltén. I do recommend having your own rental car if you stay at the camp, as you’ll have to navigate down a rough, bumpy road for about 15 minutes before you reach the camp…but trust me, it’s worth it. A 4×4 vehicle isn’t necessary, but do make sure you’re driving slowly!
Located next to the Las Vueltas River, your stay will be accompanied by the sounds of birds, unbeatable views of Fitz Roy, and complete privacy. (In fact, it’s so private…it’s hard to get a full picture of a dome!)
The Room
Each dome has a private bathroom, a wood-burning stove, and 220V electricity. (Bring your USB charging cords as you won’t find any other type of outlet here.) You’ll love the beautiful interior design and the even more beautiful views of Fitz Roy from your “window.”
Without insulated walls, the dome will get a bit chilly at night. The stove helps to keep it toasty and the ample blankets provided will keep you comfortable all night. (Though, you may not want to leave the warmth of the bed in the morning!)
Common Spaces & Dining
Chalten Camp offers a full-board program, which I fully recommend booking. Breakfast and dinner will be served in the Main Dome and you’ll also find wi-fi access here.
Breakfast is lighter fare, with granola, toast, eggs, coffee, and teas. Because it’s expected that you’ll be hitting the trails during the day, lunch is not served on property. However, you will be provided with a boxed lunch everyday, that comes with sandwiches, nuts, granola, and the best alfajor from local Chalteños. Dinner is where the dining program really shines. Every evening of your stay you’ll enjoy a delicious three-course menu that changes daily. Vegetarian or other food restrictions? No worries. Just let the camp know and they’ll make sure you’re taken care of!
Amenities & Activities
The scene at Chalten Camp is all about nature and relaxation. If you decide to spend an afternoon or full day at the camp just enjoying being outside, you won’t be disappointed.
There is an easy, self-guided hike that you can access from the property. When you’re done exploring, I recommend you snag a hammock that’s located near a small stream where you can soak up some sun and relax to the sounds of the water.
The Location
As mentioned, the location of Chalten Camp is quite secluded. But, in this case, that is definitely one of the selling points.
However, if you want to go into El Chaltén town, you’re only a 15 minute drive away. The small hiking town is full of quality restaurants, cafes, shops, and outdoor outfitters. Additionally, the town is inside Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, so you can expect to be surrounded by pristine natural beauty.

Price
Chalten Camp quotes its prices in USD. Because the Argentine peso is currently so unstable, it’s not surprising that this small business prefers a stronger currency.
For a full-board stay, expect to spend about $500 USD per night. It’s not cheap, but you will enjoy a higher end experience that sets Chalten Camp apart from other similar-style glamping domes.
Chalten Camp was my first glamping experience…and I have to admit: the bar is now set pretty high! I really enjoyed such a unique stay in one of the most beautiful places in the world. If your budget allows, I completely recommend booking a night or two at this stunning property.

Carolyn, you’re making me want to book a trip here ASAP! But you were not kidding when you said the prices aren’t cheap. If I do go one day, it will definitely have to be a ‘treat yo self’ type of trip. Seriously though – everything looks and sounds amazing. I do have a couple of questions – you recommended opting for the full-board option. So there’s an option that doesn’t include the meals? (Just curious because let’s be real – I love my food and when I go, it’s going to be included haha). And second question – about how many people can be expected to be using the Main Dome? But I do think these kinds of unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunites are worth it every once in awhile haha. You can book the dome without the meal option, which would definitely save you money. And there are good restaurants in town. However, I do think the best quality and flavor will be found in their meal plan. I was really blown away by the meals here. While we were there, the most people we saw in the main dome was about 6-8 (including us). But there was definitely still room to spare even with that amount in here. I never felt crowded during our stay.
